Hi everyone,
This is it! I fly to Oak Harbor this Friday. I will be working in the boat yard for about three days, putting on fresh bottom paint, inspecting prop and rudder etc. When all is ready below the water line, Leviathan will splash in the water on the 1st of June. At that point the rigging will be tuned, and the engine thoroughly serviced. My son has a small trailer sailboat, an O'day which is also in Oak Harbor. He and my nephew will be with me for a couple of days, then they will depart, towing the small boat home to Alaska. On the the 11th of June, my son will fly back to Oak and join the crew for the big boat. Two other men will be joining the crew prior to that on the 5th of June. After my son's collage graduation at Oregon state, he and the other two crew members and myself will be underway on the 14th of June bound for Canadian customs in Sidney, BC. I can tell you I have a lot of time, money and planning into this voyage, but this seems to keep my soul fulfilled. The sea has been good to me. Like my dad, I have spent so much of my life working at sea, commercial fishing, I know now its time to enjoy it. I've heard it said the sea is not beautiful or dangerous, it is indifferent. Stan
